Eagle Scout
Boy Scouts was the first and longest challenge I undertook. In addition to being bestowed the Rank of Eagle, I held several troop positions such as Webmaster, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader.
Ice climbing - adirondack mountains, ny
As a part of the Boy Scout philosophy, we were encouraged to push ourselves beyond our comfort zones and participate in demanding camping activities and excursions. One of these involved winter camping and ice climbing in the Adirondacks, NY. We learned cold-weather survival skills, techniques used to scale frozen waterfalls and were instructed on the vast history of the Adirondacks. Other memorable Boy Scout experiences included: rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling and sailing.
90 Mile trek - philmont Scout Ranch, Nm
During my years as a Boy Scout, I also completed four treks that were known as "High Adventures", trips that were considered significantly more difficult than our typical weekend campouts. The most challenging of these excursions was a two week, 90 mile adventure to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. For many Boy Scouts, the journey is considered the final frontier, due to the difficult terrain, erratic weather conditions and long days. The expedition was incredible and the experience resulted in my later interest in biking across the United States.
